Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (Link)

Oh yum.  Haven't tried these, but love the sound of them.  Apologies for being missing in action, I truly do need 36 hours in my day.

  1. Miriam,

Sorry to do this here. I'm not sure where is appropriate. I couldn't find an email or anything. I came across your blog after being recently diagnosed with a sulphur allergy. I had daily migraines for 5 months, and after cutting sulphur out of my diet, I've been migraine free. I am really REALLY struggling trying to cook. I don't cook well, mostly out of boxes, which I can't do anymore. Your blog has been a huge help. However, I'm a very hands on learner and would love to find someone who teaches some kind of cooking class in my area so I can actually learn how to cook some of these things, as well as learn how to improvise on my own. I'm getting tired of the few things I know are safe. I'm in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. Do you have any connections or suggestions for me?

Thank you in advance for your time.

    1. Hello Janae,

I'm really glad that my blog has been helpful to you. I understand that need to learn kinesthetically (in movement) so much, and I wish I knew of resources that could help you. Even looking at the food network or the cooking channel or youtube videos on cooking tricks gives you a visual idea, but it isn't hands on, like you say.

I know of nobody specifically in your area who is sulfur-free (which doesn't mean there's nobody, just nobody I know). But regular cooking classes help for just getting your hands into it and learning about how stuff works. What about some cooking classes in your local area? Like here, maybe? http://www.harmonsgrocery.com/cooking-school/ At least you get your hands on the foods, even if you can't eat them, and then you can adapt what you learned to cooking sulfur-free more?

Also, feel free to posts questions, I am happy to throw ideas out there even if I don't know the answers. :)

Yay for no more migraines, and very best of luck!

  2. I just made these today. Thanks for the recipe. They are really good! Instead of a cup of fake butter I just used the real thing. I'm so relieved butter is on the good list.

  3. Hey Tanyamae, so glad you liked them and yes, I completely agree about butter being a good food for us. When I'm low, I also use Trader Joe's coconut oil mixed with real butter. This produces an incredibly tasty flavor, too. :)
